The summer of 2015 brings a 20 percent increase in sales of tourist packages for seniors, compared to sales figures from last summer, Paralela 45 statistics show.

“Most tourists who buy such packages come from urban areas, have higher education and incomes over average. In 10 percent of cases, the holiday packs are purchased as gifts by family members, but most offers for seniors are purchased personally, three to four months in advance,” said Alin Burcea, president of Paralela 45.

The top destinations chosen by Romanian seniors are destinations that focus on culture and history, such as Istanbul, Rome and Athens, but they also select relaxing travel spots like Costa Blanca, Sardinia and Tuscany. Most packages are circuits for this year during the fall, when temperatures are pleasant and the destinations are not oversaturated with tourists.

Offers range between EUR 199 per person (Istanbul) and EUR 375 per person (Tuscany), usually for a seven nights stay including accommodation, half board and tourist assistance. To access these offers seniors must be aged over 55 and be accompanied by a person aged less than the limit. People under 55 who want to go to programs for seniors will pay an additional accommodation worth about EUR 40.

Paralela 45 operates on the holiday market for over 25 years and has a national network of 35 agencies and nearly 200 employees.
