Romanian meat producer Agricola Bacau sells 12 pct more poultry in H1

The Agricola Bacau group of companies has reported a RON 286.6 million turnover (approximately EUR 65 million) turnover in the first semester of this year, up 6 percent y-o-y, the meat producer has announced.

Agricola International, the company responsible for poultry production, logistics and Agricola Bacau’s own retail network, has increased sales by 11 percent, reaching a total of RON 181.5 million (approximately EUR 41 million).

In the first six months of 2012, the meat producer’s poultry sales were up 12 percent in volume and 23 percent in value, y-o-y. Poultry exports represented 16 percent of he company’s production, down from a 20 percent share in he first six months of 2012. The company’s main export markets are Germany, Holland, France, Greece and the UK.

“The average poultry price was up by 10 percent against the same period last year. I can’t help notice that between 2009 and 2012 the average price increased by only 17 percent, meaning less than the inflation reported for the same period, while the cost of average inputs was up by more than 100 percent,” said Grigore Horoi, the group’s president.

Agricola Bacau’s other companies have also increased their business, according to the group’s data. Salbac, which produces processed meat products, increased sales by 10 percent in value while volumes dropped 4 percent. Europrod, which produces ready-meal products, increased sales by 7 percent while Avicola Lumina Constanta sold 27 percent more eggs in H1 which meant sales were up 13 percent in value.
