Romanian government freezes gas price for companies

The government has decided on Thursday to block any price hikes of indigenous gas for companies starting July 1, citing a report of energy watchdog ANRE that says Romania has reached convergence of prices with other markets in the regions.

The prices will be maintained at the April level of RON 89.40 per MWh, except for thermal energy producers.

“It is an obvious decision. Practically, the convergence has been made,” said Razvan Nicolescu, the delegate minister of energy, in a statement.

According to ANRE data, the average price of natural gas across Europe is estimated to amount to EUR 20 per MWh in the third quarter of this year.

The department for energy said the gas paid by Romanian companies is in line with forecasted prices in EU hubs, both for July and the third quarter of the year.
