Romanian freelancers gain prominence on international market

Over the past four years, Romanian freelancers have been more active on international platforms. Adam Byrnes, international director of Freelancer.com. tells Business Review how much they earn on average and where they deliver most projects.

In 2012 Romania was ranked the 7th in terms of freelancer revenue behind India, Pakistan, US, Bangladesh, UK, and Vietnam.

The number of Romanian freelancers has been continuously increasing within the past 4 years. Since 2009, an active Romanian freelancer earns an average of USD 1,064 in seven to eight projects.

What type of projects are most in demand on Freelancer.com? What are the best and less well-paid projects?

Freelancers specializing in a range of skills in graphic design and in website and software development have their pick of really great projects. The higher the level of skill required, the higher paying the job.

 What are the fees for freelancers?

It’s free to join Freelancer.com. Browsing and bidding on projects are also free. The only fee freelancers pay is a small commission when they complete a project. For employers, they pay only 3 percent of the project fee once the project has been accepted by a freelancer. Active users will really benefit from subscribing to membership plans, which will cut down the commission costs. For freelancers, it allows them to bid on more projects and put more work samples in their portfolios.

 How can an employer post projects and what are the costs?

There are no fees for posting projects on Freelancer.com. Employers should just provide a complete and accurate project description, skills requirements and the price range of their allotted budget for the job. An employer can pick the best freelancer among those who will bid on their project. They can even invite a freelancer to bid. An employer pays only a 3 percent commission fee to Freelancer.com once a freelancer accepts the project.
