Romania’s exports hit a record high of RON 19.9 billion (EUR 4.5 billion) in July, while imports amounted to RON 22.4 billion (EUR 5 billion), according to a flash estimate of the National Statistics Institute (INS).
The INS said that exports expanded by 16.1 percent in July, when expressed in RON and by 18.1 percent in EUR. Imports added 9.3 percent in RON and 11.3 percent in EUR.
The trade deficit narrowed by EUR 171.5 million to EUR 574 million in July against the same period of last year.
In the first seven months, exports amounted to RON 124 billion (EUR 28.1 billion) and imports reached RON 137 billion (EUR 31.3 billion). Exports grew by 7.6 percent in RON and 7.7 percent in EUR, while imports fell by 0.8 percent in RON and 0.7 percent in EUR.
The seven-month trade deficit narrowed by RON 9.9 billion (EUR 2.2 billion) to RON 13.7 billion (EUR 3.1 billion).
The EU 28 received RON 87.5 billion (EUR 19.9 billion) worth of Romanian exports, accounting for 70.6 percent of total exports. Imports, meanwhile, amounted to RON 105 billion (EUR 23.9 billion), which is 76.4 percent of total imports.
According to the INS, cars and transport equipments were the most traded, accounting for 42.5 percent of total exports and 34.7 percent of imports. Other manufactured products had 33.6 percent of exports and 30.3 percent of imports.
