Romania trade deficit widens to EUR 1.11 billion

Romania’s trade deficit widened to EUR 1.11 billion in the first quarter, from EUR1.07 billion a year earlier, the country’s statistics institute INS said Monday.

Romanian exports in March totaled RON 20.12 billion (EUR 4.7 billion) and imports rose to RON 22 billion (EUR 5.03 billion).

Year-on-year March saw exports increase by 11.8 percent (in euro). Imports, however, increased at a slower rate compared to march 2013, by 9.9 percent (in euro).

Compared to the previous month, exports are up 3.2 percent and imports are up 8.1 percent.

The trade deficit in march was RON 2.47 billion (EUR 551.4 million), smaller by RON 26.8 million  (EUR 18.8 million) than the deficit recorded in march 2014.

Quarter 1 statistics

Exports – RON 57.4 billion (EUR 12.75 billion), up 10.1 percent (in euro) compared to Q1 2013

Imports – RON 60.43 billion (EUR 13.87 billion),  up 9.6 percent on year

Trade deficit – RON 5.02 billion (EUR 1.11 nillion) higher by 298.5 million (EUR 40.5 million) than the deficit recorded in Q1 2014.
