Romania at the Olympic Games: 104 athletes competing in 15 disciplines

Between July 27 and August 12 everyone’s eyes will be on the most expected sports event in the world, the Olympics Games that will take place in London. Romania’s Olympics lot is made up of 104 sportspeople competing in 15 disciplines and 60 officials accompanying the sportsmen, as well as some reserve players for the canoeing and fencing disciplines.

Swimming competition: Camelia Potec, Norbert Trandafir, Dragoş Agache and Alexandru Coci as well as trainers Philippe Jean Pierre Lucas and Ovidiu Galeru.

Water Polo competition: 13 players (Dragoş Constantin Stoenescu, Cosmin Alexandru Radu, Tiberiu Negrean, Nicolae Virgil Diaconu, Andrei Ionuţ Iosep, Andrei Dan Buşilă, Mihnea Chioveanu, Alexandru Barabas Matei Guiman, Dimitri Goanţă, Ramiro Georgescu, Alexandru Andrei Ghiban, Kadar Kalman Janos and Mihai Eduard Draguşin), coachers Kovacs Istvan Lukacs and Remus Ciprian Cîmpianu, masseur Dumitru Paizan and Anatolie Grinţescu, the leader of the team.

Boxing competition:  pugilists Andrei Bogdan Juratoni and Mihaela Lăcătuş together with coaches Gheorghe Napoleon Bonaparte and Adrian Lacătuş.

Kayak-canoe competition:  11 players, kayak women Irina Lauric, Iuliana Paleu and Ionel Gavrilă, Ştefan Vasile, Toni Ioneticu, Traian Neagu, Ionuţ Alexandru Mitrea and Bogdan Mada from kayak team, canoeists Lazăr Liviu Alexandru Dumitrescu, Victor Mihalachi and Iosif Chirilă with the trainers Igor Lipalit and Florin Scoica, masseur Elena Moreşanu and Ioan Bârlădeanu, the leader of this Olympic lot.

Rowing competition: 15 players (Cristina Grigoraş, Eniko Mironcic, Camelia Lupaşcu, Roxana Gabriela Cogianu, Adelina Maria Cojocariu, Ioana Rotaru, Nicoleta Albu, Talida Teodora Gidoiu, Irina Dorneanu, Georgeta Andrunache, Viorica Susanu, Marius Vasile Cozmiuc, Alexandru George Palamariu, Cristi Ilie Pîrghie, Florin Curuea), 2 reserve players, Andreea Nicoleta Boghian and Ionel Strungaru, coachers Mircea Eugen Roman, Dimitrie Popescu and Marlena Zagoni, medical assistant Anca Nemţoc and Elisabeta Lipă, the leader of the team.

Cycling competition: Andrei Nechita.

Fencing competition: 8 players, Ana Maria Florentina Brânză, Anca Măroiu, Simona Cristina Gherman, Rareş Eugen Dumitrescu, Gelu Florin Zalomir, Cosmin Hăncianu, Radu Horea Daraban, Bianca Alexandra Pascu, doua rezerve, Loredana Dinu (sword) and Alexandru Siriteanu (sword), accompanied by coachers Mihai Claudiu Covaliu, Dan Podeanu and Cornel Răzvan Milan, masseur Mircea Dan Lascăr and doctor Ion Mihai Nicolae.

Gymnastics: Cătălina Ponor, Sandra Izbaşa, Raluca Haidu, Diana Bulimar, Larisa Iordache, Flavius Koczi, Ovidiu Buidoso, Marius Berbecar, Cristian Bataga and Vlad Cotuna together with Maria Bitang, Octavian Bellu, Lucian Sandu, Ioan Suciu and Vasile Vug, physiotherapist Andreia Emilia Ianasi, doctor Cristian Gheorghe Stoiciu and Elena Frîncu, the team leader.

Judo competition:  6 players, Alina Dumitru, Corina Căprioriu, Andreea Ştefania Chiţu, Dan Gheorghe Fâşie, Vlăduţ George Simionescu and Daniel Brata, coachers Florin Bercean and Emil Ioan Morar, as well as doctor Mirela Gabriela Pop.

Shooting competition: Lucia Liliana Mihalache and Alin George Moldoveanu together with trainers Attila Iosif Ciorba and Sorin Babii.

Table Tennis competition: Elisabeta Samara, Daniela Dodean and Adrian Crişan players, coacher Viorel Filimon and Cristinel Romanescu, the conductor.

Tennis competition: Irina Camelia Begu, Monica Niculescu, Sorana Cîrstea, Simona Halep, Horia Tecău and Adrian Ungur, coachers Sever Dron and Ciprian Porumb.

Weightlifting competition: Roxana Cocoş, Răzvan Martin, Gabriel Sîncraian and Florin Ionuţ Croitoru, coachers Petre Becheru and Nicolae Niţu.

Wrestling competition: Alin Ciurariu Alexuc and Daniel Rareş Chintoan, together with coachers Petrică Cărare and Nicolae Ghiţă

Athletics competition: 17 players (Nicoleta Grasu, Claudia Nicoleta Ştef, Cristina Casandra, Bianca Perie, Cristina Bujin, Esthera Petre, Lidia Şimon, Constantina Diţă, Andreea Ogrăzeanu, Bianca Denisa Razor, Mirela Lavric, Angela Moroşanu, Ancuţa Bobocel, Elisabeta Bîrcă, Viorica Ţigău, Marius Iulian Cocioran and Viorel Marius Ionescu).

At the 2008 Beijing Olympics Games, Romania ranked 17 among participant countries with four gold medals, only one silver medal and three bronze medals.
