Philip Morris is in the middle of an expansion process for its cigarette factory in Otopeni, Ilfov county, and while it will not advance an official number for the value of the investment, the company does say that at the end of the project its total local investments will be RON 450 million.

“On a regional level, the Philip Morris factory in Romania is one of the most efficient operations, so our recent decisions to expand its production capacity did not come as a surprise, but rather as a step in our multi-annual development strategy. Once finalised this new expansion project, the total level of Philip Morris investment in Romania in the last two decades will be up to RON 450 million (USD 139 million)”, according to sources from the American company.

The new production line in Otopeni will cover both local demand and exports “in keeping with the Company’s international strategy of managing our brands”, according to the press release.

The company did not reveal how much capacity will increase, but at the moment it stands at 25 billion cigarettes per year.
