Pensions and wages in the public sector to go up in 2015

The government is looking for solutions to increase small pensions, according to PM Victor Ponta who announced on Friday that a 4.5 percent increase will be applied starting with 2015.

“I will look into legal and constitutional strategies, because the first effort must be made for the people with very low pensions. In any event, 4.5 percent will be the increase in 2015”, the PM said, quoted by economica.net.

Labor Minister, Rovana Plumb, recently broached the subject of upping pensions, outside of inflation hikes.

“Next year we will adopt the occupational pension law which, once enforced, will have a considerable effect for certain categories of retired citizens. We’re talking about optional pensions that will not cost the State but rather the employers that contribute to certain activity sectors. These pensions would benefit from fiscal advantages. This is the basic concept, it’s currently being applied in other countries”, according to Rovana Plumb.

Public workers to get pay increase on January 1 2015

Rovana Plumb also talked on Thursday about an estimated salary hike for public workers on January 1 2015. The exact percentage will be discussed with international financial bodies, writes capital.ro.

“After the international institutions leave we can talk specific numbers for salary raises. After the Government increased the national minimum wage, currently RON 850, it resulted in 15 salary classes which overlap. From July 1 we will have 29 classes that overlap. We are currently in negotiations we international bodies to ensure a salary raise in the public sector from January 1 2015”, according to the Labor minister.

Plumb also mentioned that all public workers, regardless if they’re working in central or local administration, will be able to benefit from the pay raise.
