Over 45,000 Romanian tourists spent their Pentecost holiday on the coastline and spent about EUR 6 million, above the hoteliers’ expectations, who were estimating 30,000 customers and revenues amounting to EUR 4 million, reports Mediafax.

Compared to last year, the number of tourists who spent the Pentecost holiday on the coast increased by 35,000, while in 2013 30,000 Romanians assaulted the Black Sea resorts.

According to a press release of the Federation Romanian Tourism Employers (FPTR), the state didn’t get involved in the opening of the season nor did the promotion associations come with programs to attract tourists, and hoteliers have the exclusive merit for the success of the beginning of the season.

“This year, the Pentecost holiday represented in fact the opening of the summer season. Now the real tourists arrived at the seaside, who came for the sun and for the sea, unlike the May 1 mini-holiday, when most of the Romanians came at the seaside for the clubs,” reads the FPTR press release.

The busiest resort was Mamaia, but also in the South of the seaside hotels and pensions housed about 5,000 tourists, who preferred the quietude and greenery.
