Orange CEO: Romania among top spots in leading edge technologies

Romania is listed among the top spots in leading edge technologies, and the Romanian telecommunications market continues to be very dynamic and very competitive, Orange Romania CEO Jean-Francois Fallacher said in an interview with AGERPRES on Friday.

“Providing a 3G+ network covering the entire country and a 4G network in over 1,000 localities, an increasing use of mobile Internet, a portfolio rich in mobile devices and surprising services, the Romanian telecommunications market continues to be very dynamic and very competitive. According to the latest Net Index study, Romania ranks third worldwide by Internet service speed, after South Korea and Japan. At the same time, the Romanian consumers benefit from these high-speed Internet services at very low prices. In addition, Romania is among the top spots as regards leading edge technologies,” Fallacher said in the interview.

In a recent analysis of Romania’s IT sector, Bloomberg noted that in the last 8 years an IT specialist’s average salary multiplied five times.

With more than 64,000 certified IT specialists, Romania is the European Union leader in technology workers per capita and sixth in the world, according to Gartner Inc. (IT), a research company in Stamford, Connecticut. About 12,000 Romanians work for the biggest 25 technology companies in the country and Oracle is the largest employer, according to Finance Ministry data.

Romania’s strengths are its multilingual, educated labor force and its low costs for IT services, Gartner said in a Nov. 6 report.
