In Romania, 45 percent of IT managers say that their budgets will grow in the next three years, while 17 percent even predict “strong” growth. This makes Romania the fastest growing market in the Central and Eastern European region, according to a survey by Kapsch BusinessCom.

The overall performance of the Romanian companies concerning future utilization of IT is in many aspects higher than in other countries.

According to the IT Readiness Index carried out by Kapsch, Romania was placed on the 5th place out of the 7th.

In the ICT Market Development Index, which compares the predictions for the future in the surveyed countries, Romania already is on rank 2, two points behind Poland.

“IT and telecommunications are not only important elements in modernizing and increasing the efficiency of companies. This sector, with its upward momentum, is also a significant growth driver for the general economy. Romania shows the biggest dynamics here and has a great number of skilled IT specialists,” according to Jochen Borenich, COO of Kapsch BusinessCom.

The companies of the country have some other remarkable features: Romania is comparably strong in offering mobile access to enterprise applications via smartphone or tablet and the opportunity to integrate own mobile devices into company networks.

Concerning plans to offer this BYOD (Bring your own device) opportunity in the next three years, the country has the highest figures, with 20 percent of the IT managers have plans to do that. The average in the surveyed countries is only 14 percent.

Although the number of local companies that underwent external security audits in the past three years is only 38 percent, with the average being 46 percent, Romania is catching up.

Personnel expenses for security will grow for 57 percent of the companies, from an average of 46 percent, while 53 percent of them expect financial expenses to grow, compared to an average of 55 percent.

The survey commissioned by Kapsch asked nearly 900 IT managers in seven countries- Austria, Czech Republic, Hungary, Poland, Romania, Slovak Republic and Turkey- about their budget trends and their estimation of various ICT challenges.

The survey called ICT Business Trends and Challenges was conducted by Pierre Audoin Consultants (PAC), and the findings will be used by Kapsch in the development of its operations in the CEE countries.

“The study confirms that the sector will continue to register revenue growth. We want to take maximum possible advantage of this momentum, and there is one finding that is of particular interest: In many fields such as outsourcing, the companies surveyed gave preference to providers with a strong local presence over international enterprises. This confirms our strategy for these countries, in which we are proceeding similarly as in Austria,” states Borenich.
