Ioana Petrescu: Our main concern is for Romania to continue its economic growth

Romanian authorities’ main priority for the near and distant future is for Romania to continue its economic growth and implement structural reforms, according to Ioana Petrescu, minister of finance.

“We salute the World Bank’s decision to give us this loan, especially through the new country partnership, whose objective reflects our desire to offer the business environment predictability and an efficient public sector. Over time, Romania has developed a solid partnership with the World Bank, which allows for interventions in different sectors of the economy and we hope that in the future we can contribute by implementing a package of structural reforms (…).

I know that the business environment is expecting measures that would prove we understand the fiscal code as a lever for growth and development, not just as a way to supply the budget with revenue. The fiscal policies we will implement will lead to the development of a better fiscal system, more efficient, more predictable and more transparent”, according to the minister of Finances.

The World Bank has signed off a EUR 750 million loan with Romania, as part of a new partnership strategy running through to 2017, which aims to help the country’s goal of converging with EU income levels.
