2015 has been a promising year for travel, with the leisure segment seeing accelerated growth over business travel for both local and foreign tourists, according to company representatives. The company keeps a positive eye to 2016, expecting the trend to keep positive for the leisure segment.

Though three quarters of Ibis visitors still have business as main purpose, big cities across the country have started to attract more leisure seekers through special events (Christmas city breaks, big concerts in the capital city, the weekend of May 1, theatre festivals).

In 2016 the number of tourists for leisure segment will continue to increase, Ibis is already preparing accommodation packages at cultural and sporting events and traditional holidays in all the cities where we are present with hotels in Romania (Bucharest, Constanta and Sibiu). In the business tourism, we have every reason to be optimistic: both Romanian companies, representing the majority of our customers and multinational companies are accelerating their pace of development. This also translates into an increase in business travel, for which Ibis is a favorite location for its service, comfort and affordable prices. At the same time, we foresee a revival of the events within European funded projects and an increased appetite for networking through diverse and niche events,” says Ioan David, deputy director of Ibis in Romania.

Time spent on the Internet by Ibis guests on their own devices, using the hotel’s WiFi connection also increased in 2015 from 2.5 to 3 hours on average, with the busiest period between 20:00 and 4:00.

Ibis is a brand of Accor group’s economy hotels, active in 92 countries with over 3,600 hotels, of which 1,000 are Ibis.
