Romania will raise the gross minimum wage to RON 975 as of January 1, 2015, from the recurrent RON 900, Labor Minister Rovana Plumb said Monday, quoted by Mediafax.

According to the Labor Code, the gross minimum wage is established through Government bill, after negotiations with employers’ associations and unions.

In 2014, the government raised the minimum wage in two stages of RON 50 increments. From January 1, 2014, the national minimum wage was increased to RON 850 and then in July to RON 900 for a complete schedule of 168 hours per months, representing RON 5.357 per hour.

By comparison, in 2011 the minum wage was established at RON 670 for a 170 hour monthly workload, averaging out at RON 3.94 per hour.
