The ban for construction work on the Black Sea coast between May 15 and September 15 will be lifted for investments financed with EU funds. The developers will be obligated to assure tourists’ safety, prime minister Victor Ponta said on Tuesday, writes Mediafax.

“An ordinance that will allow EU funded projects, especially on the coast, where there was a law a couple of years ago that forbid construction work between May 15 and September 15, so no work was being done, then winter came and again all worked stopped. We now have European projects that, if are not completed, we lose funding and get stuck with the work site, not just in Mamaia. In Eforie and other areas”, Ponta said at the start of the government meeting today.

He argued that it is important for works in development to be continued and finalized, but “only if tourists are protected”.

Constanta mayor, Radu Mazare, said afterwards that after the law is passed, the authorities will decide which private projects can be completed during the summer and in what conditions.

“I already talked with my people at town hall and after the ordinance will pass we will inspect all the building permits to see what work sites the permits allow and what conditions we need to set. They can work on the interiors, in certain intervals”, Radu Mazare said.

He mentioned that the deadline for finishing work on the Mamaia coast is June 15
