Bread, vegetables and fruits are the products most commonly found in Romanians’ shopping carts, a recent GfK survey revealed. Fresh food products are present in two out of three shopping carts, representing almost 40 percent of Romanians’ total expenses for consumer goods.
Over a year, Romanians spend the most money on meat, vegetables and cold cuts.
Romanians prefer their fresh food from traditional retail outlets, while cold cuts and poultry can be bought both from the market and the supermarket.
In the case of modern retail, “about three quarters of shoppers entering a hypermarket put vegetables and fruits in the shopping cart, compared to 60 percent of the clients of supermarkets and discount stores,” said Raluca Raschip, Consumer Goods &Retail Director GfK Romania.
