FPTR: 100,000 foreign tourists come to Bucharest each year for local women friends

About 650,000 foreign tourists come to Bucharest each year and get accommodation in the city’s hotels, out of which 15 percent come here to meet local women friends, 75 percent for business and 10 percent for city breaks or are in transit, according to data from the Romanian Federation of Tourism Employers (FPTR) cited by Mediafax.

“Out of the 650,000 foreign tourists who come to Bucharest each year I estimate that 75 percent come for business, 15 percent or about 100,000 tourists come here for personal reasons, meaning to visit their lady friends. Most of them are Italians, Germans and Spanish and they generally have met these women before – abroad or online,” Mohammad Murad, president of FPTR told Mediafax.

The 100,000 foreign tourists who come to Bucharest to meet with local women spend on average between EUR 150 and EUR 175 a day and stay 1.6 days (average length of stay) . Each year they bring to Romania some EUR 25 – 30 million, according to FPTR.

According to data from the National Institute of Statistics some 646,000 foreign tourists bought accommodation in Bucharest last year. Out of this, 69,422 were Italians followed by, 56,148 Americans, 55,693 Germans, 52,702 British, 49,690 French, 46,378 Israelis,  24,890 Spanish and 24,412 Austrians.
