DHL’s Carpathian Marathon Relay raises EUR 10,000 in donations

Over 1,000 participants, celebrities and fans supported the cause of the 5th edition of the DHL Carpathian marathon Relay. Over 10,000 euro were raised at the event through registration taxes and donations.

The money will be donated to the “Save the Children” foundation to fund education and alcohol and drugs prevention programs in schools.

The relay started in Predeal, going through Paraul Rece, Rasnov and ending in Poiana Brasov.

The 2014 edition was supported by former olympic champions: Violeta Becela, Otilia Bădescu, Monica Roșu și Monica Iagăr; and public celebrities:  Andi Moisescu (Save the Children), Andreea Marin, Roxana Ciuhulescu, Ellie White, Anca Serea, DJ Wanda, Ileana Badiu.

“We are glad that we managed to reassert the Marathon’s important in the sports events calendar and we thank everybody who chose to get involved an support the cause, running a difficult but beautiful race. I congratulate all the runners present, experienced marathoners, but especially the children who signed up for the new competition we introduced this year: the Childrens’ Cross. It is encouraging that some many of them participated and we are happy to promote a healthy lifestyle for kids”, according to Daniel Kearvell, Managing Director DHL.

The funds raised will be used by Save the Children for the project: “Education and Information against the abuse of drugs among young people”. The foundation will set out to inform 8,000 students from over 120 schools in Bucharest and other counties about the adverse effects of drug consumption.
