Belgian group Delhaize, owner of the Mega Image and Shop & Go supermarkets, spent in Q4 2014 EUR 14 million on acquisitions, mainly on the 20 Angst supermarkets, and constituted a EUR 5 million provision for a fine from the Competition Council, according to Mediafax.

In August last year, Mega Image announced the conclusion of an agreement to take over 20 of the 22 supermarkets operated by Angst, after the latter stepped out from a collaboration with Carrefour. Following the transaction, Mega Image took over the premises (including equipment, inventory, employees, customers, commercial venue).

Subsequently, in November, the Competition Council approved the acquisition of only 19 Angst supermarkets by Mega Image.

By December, Mega Image reopened under its own brands 18 Angst supermarkets, the 19th being incorporated as an extension in the Mega Image Lacul Tei supermarket. Mega Image estimated annual revenues of EUR 21 million for the 20 supermarkets, which have total areas between 90 and 750 sqm.

Founded in 1995, Mega Image is the largest supermarket chain in Romania with a 411 supermarket network (of which 300 in Bucharest), under the brands Mega Image (200), Shop & Go (209), AB COOL FOOD (1), Mega Drive (1).
