Danone Romania invests EUR 1.9 million in support program for local farmers

Danone Romania together with Heifer Romania Foundation and the Danone Ecosystem investment fund has launched a socio-economic support program for small farmers in underdeveloped areas of Romania. The project will require a EUR 1.9 million investment and will take four years.

The purpose of the program is to encourage small farmers to deliver quality milk and associate in order to develop sustainable businesses. Families part of the scheme receive free livestock and training.

Some 800 families will benefit from the program and in the first two years about 200 Holstein-Frise cows will be donated.

The only condition is that each family that receives a cow must agree to later pass on themselves a heifer cow to others in need.
