Contemporary Norwegian Architecture on display at the National Museum of Contemporary Art

The “Contemporary Norwegian Architecture # 7” Exhibition travels around the world starting with 2011, being so far hosted by Brazil, Cuba, Poland, Croatia, the Czech republic, the Netherlands, Slovakia, Greece, Cyprus, Germany and Bulgaria. In 2014, with the support of the Royal Norwegian Embassy in Romania, in partnership with the National Museum of Contemporary Art and Zeppelin Association, it comes to Bucharest.

As the most recent in a series of presentations dedicated to the Norwegian architectural trend lately, this selection presents a truly wide range of achievements, from stops, small private homes and houses, to public buildings, complex building constructions, and urban infrastructure and planning. Through various ways of presentation and new media, the exhibition offers a complex picture of the latest architecture completed by Norwegians in their own country and abroad.

An ambitious initiative of the National Museum of Art, Architecture and Design in Norway, this series of exhibitions – now reaching the seventh edition – has the aim to present the best works of Norwegian architects in the last five years, documenting, summarizing and identifying trends, as much as possible, and highlighting the Norwegian specific. This programme is particularly a good model for the Romanian audience and authorities, about how quality architecture can “work” for the country brand, both at home – under the cameras and eyes of tourists, as well as travelling around the world, as key examples of good architectural practice.

The selection presents over 30 projects, grouped in various ways – new constructions and rennovations, interventions, cultural and educational areas, leisure and public areas, touristic routes, passive houses etc. Somehow like the Brio model railroad, with aluminium and birch tree elements, the exhibition has a modular structure to be adapted to various spaces, that gives every installation a different and individual character. In addition, the audience is invited to contribute to the installation, by way of playful yellow floral elements, with which one can leav markers indicating favorite projects, by attaching them to the modules.

The exhibition is made by the National Museum of Art, Architecture and Design in Norway (www.nasjonalmuseet.no) and funded by the Norwegian Ministry of Foreign Affairs. Romanian organisers: the Royal Norwegian Embassy in Romania, in partnership with the National Museum of Contemporary Art and Zeppelin Association.

The opening will take place on Thursday, January 23, from 18.00, at the National Museum of Contemporary Art. The event will take place in the presence of Arch. Eva Madshus (co-curator) and it will be available until March 22.
