Cinepolitica film festival to kick off

Cinepolitica will once again offer movie lovers a selection of political films, debates and memorable gatherings, aiming to lay bare to the audience political mechanisms and motivations through the art of cinema. The third edition of Cinepolitica International Film Festival starts on Tuesday, April 8, at 20.00, at Cinema Studio, with the national premiere of the film Diplomacy, directed by Volker Schlöndorff.
Up until April 13, at Studio, Elvire Popesco and Union Cinemas will be screened over 20 powerful films, on current political topics, some of which have been submitted or nominated for the Academy Awards. Special guests Serge Avedikian, winner of a Palme d’Or for Chienne d’histoire and star of Paradjanov, as well as Romanian journalist Cristian Tudor Popescu, will give master classes on the influence of politics and censorship in cinema.

On screen tonight

Having its world premiere in Berlin this year, Diplomacy addresses a key moment in the history of Paris: on Hitler’s orders, the Nazi general Dietrich von Choltitz is preparing to blow they city up before the army leaves. The Swedish consul Raoul Nordling tries to convince him of the absurdity of the plan. In the main roles, two of the stars of European cinema: Neils Arestrup and André Dussollier. Volker Schlöndorff is one of the most celebrated German directors. With his adaptation of The Tin Drum (1979), based on the novel by Günter Grass, he won the Palme d’Or at the Cannes Film Festival and the Academy Award for Best Foreign Language Film.
