With a rate of 99 percent, Romania ranks first in the world on the percentage of hotels that offer clients free WiFi, according to a study conducted by KAYAK, a meta-search site for travelers. Kayak scours more than 100 search engines in order to find the lowest possible price for hotels, plane tickets, attractions and… WIFI.
Romania is followed by Vietnam (99 percent), Taiwan (98 percent), Cambodgia (98 percent), Poland(98 percent), Marocco (98 percent), Slovakia (98 percent) , Japan (97 percent), Columbia (97 percent), while Montenegro (97 percent) comes in on the 10th position in the ranking
Globally, 90 percent of the hotels currently offer free WiFi. The lowest place country in the world is Australia, where only 56 percent of hotels offer free WIFI. United Kingdom (88 percent), Cyprus (85 percent), Austria (79 percent) and Germany (73 percent) have the greediest hotels in Europe.
The ranking included 100 countries, but focused on 52 states, where Kayak could compile data from different hotels.
According to data from hotelchatter.com, hotel chains Ibis, Holiday Inn, Pullman all offer free wifi, while Hilton, Intercontinental and Novotel represent pricier options for travelers (business or otherwise) that want to surf the net while spending time in their hotel rooms.
Whereas Romania could boast with the 3rd fastest Internet in the world a couple of years ago, the country has now fallen to the 6th position, according to Bloomberg.
