Canada-based electronics manufacturer Celestica, which operates a manufacturing plant in Oradea, western Romania, is looking to increase its portfolio by expanding into the solar energy sector and the automotive industry, said Cristian Gulicska, general manager of the company, during the second day of the Foreign Investors Summit (FIS), organized by Business Review magazine.

He said the company has already invested EUR 60 million in its plant, suggesting that further expansion could be made in this location.

“We are increasing the client base, more on the diversification phase. Us an industry we come from IBM and we were focusing more on telecommunications, servers and now we want to diversify the portfolio of clients towards green technology, we want to develop in the area of solar energy and automotive. We did not have it until now and we plan to enter the automotive sector,” the manager told BR.

He added the company has a strong cash position and several loan facilities that it can use to finance fresh investments in Romania.

The manager said that infrastructure is paramount for the European market, adding that not only low cost but also greater flexibility is key for the business.

“This is our advantage compared to Asia, that we are able to be flexible,” said Gulicska.

Celestica has 28,000 employees worldwide, out of which around 1,400 are working in Romania. The company registered revenues of USD 1.3 billion in the first quarter and had an operating margin of 3.1 percent.
