Romania’s consolidated budget posted a deficit of 3.1 billion lei (EUR693 million) in the first two months of 2014, equal to 0.46% of the gross domestic product, Finance Ministry data showed.
Revenue is up 4.1 percent, while expenses have also increased by 5.8 percent on the year. At the end of February 2012, the budget deficit was at 0.39 percent of the GDP (5.8 percent).
Budget revenue after January and February totals RON 30.5 billion (4.6 percent of GDP). Expenses were maintained at the same same level, namely RON 33.6 billion or 5.1 percent of GDP.
Romania ended 2013 with a budget deficit of 2,5 percent of the gross domestic product (GDP), the Government managing to attain the budget deficit target agreed upon with IMF and the European Commission. The target deficit for this year was set at 2.2 percent of GDP.
