Bucharest’s Mega Mall to open on April 23

The EUR 165 million shopping mall developed by New Europe Property Investments (NEPI) in Bucharest will officially open on April 23, the company has announced. Mega Mall is the largest investment the South African investment fund has made in Romania so far and the largest modern shopping mall to delivered this year in the country.

It covers 72,000 sqm (GLA) and it is located in eastern Bucharest, close to the Arena Nationala stadium.

Construction started in February last year and at present works are in the shop fitting stage.  There are over 200 shops in the mall and tenants include retailers such as Peek&Cloppenburg, H&M, Zara, Mango, Marks & Spencer, C&A, LC Waikiki, Koton, New Yorker, Pull&Bear, Bershka, Stradivarius, Orsay, Kenvelo, Lee Cooper, Tom Tailor, Next, Tommy Hilfiger and Musette. Mega Mall will also feature a World Class center a Cinema City multiplex.

At present Bucharest has a modern retail stock of about 900,000 sqm.

NEPI is a commercial property company whose presently one of the largest real estate investors in Romania. It owns some 330,000 of commercial space the most important shopping malls in its portfolio being Promenada Mall Bucharest, Ploiesti Shopping City and Vulcan Value Centre in Bucharest. In addition to shopping centers, NEPI owns several office projects such as Floreasca Business Park and The Lakeview in Bucharest and City Business Centre in Timisoara.

NEPI was registered in 2007 in Isle of Man and is presently listed on the Johannesburg Stock Exchange the Bucharest Stock Exchange and the London Stock Exchange. The closing price on February 2 was EUR 9.13/share (the total number of shares in issue is approximately 278 million).
