Bucharest subway fares to go up by 33 pct this month

Subway fares will increase by 16 – 33 percent, the price for two trips following to increase from RON 4 to RON 5 and for the 10 trips from RON 15 to RON 20, while for a monthly pass passengers will pay RON 70 from RON 60 today.

According to Mediafax, the price of a weekly pass with unlimited number of trips will increase from RON 20 to RON 25, while the one-day pass price will be increased from RON 6 to RON 8.

The new fares are included in the addenda of a draft order of the Ministry of Transport for the approval of subway trip fares.

The measure, which is to come into force on March 28, will increase Metrorex annual revenues by about RON 44 million (EUR 9.9 million) and will lead to lower funding deficits, reads the project approval report.
