The Romanian Constitutional Court validated the result of the country’s president election, which Klaus Iohannis won by gaining 54.50 percent of votes. President Traian Basescu was present at the ceremony, where he took the opportunity to congratulate Iohannis and also share some presidential aedvice with him.

“I wouldn’t have wanted the left to dominate the state’s institutions at the end of my term and the score that you accomplished, through your own merit, which I thank you fore, shows that my legacy will be a country that leans to the right or to the centre-right”, Traian Basescu said to Iohannis.

Basescu also mentioned that the new president is looking at a difficult term at Cotroceni.

“Of course, your term will not be an easy one mister president-elect. I will transfer to you everything that I know”, Basescu declared, adding that the next couple of weeks represent a transitional period, a first on the Romanian political scene given that former president Iliescu passed over his duties in “15 minutes”.

“I myself will transfer my most important files to president Klaus Iohannis”, Basescu argued.
