Extending subway line 4 (Parc Bazilescu – Lac Straulesti) will receive EUR 116 million European Funds and should be completed by 2016. All Metrorex projects are now on the list of EU funded projects. Moreover, EU will also finance terrain acquisitions, not just construction work, writes economica.net.
The European Commission announced on Thursday that Subway line 4 – Parc Bazilescu – Straulesti is eligible for non-reimbursable funding and will supply EUR 116 million for the project to be completed by 2016. The total cost for the new subway that connects Bucurestii Noi neighborhood to downtown is EUR 172 million, without VAT.
“We are working frenetically, you can go see the construction site”, says Aurel Radu, Metrorex director.
The new subway section is an extension of the subway line already functional which currently connects Gara de Nord to Parc Bazilescu. In the next two years the north-western neighborhoods in the capital will be connected to Gara de Nord and the rest of downtown.
Like in the case of subway line 5 (Drumul Taberei – Eroilor), Italian company Astaldi will run the construction work. For line 5, the total cost of operations will be EUR 1.2 billion.
