French hotel group Accor, which manages six hotels in Romania, is hoping to bring the Mgallery brand to the Romanian market in 2013 and says that over the next five to ten years it plans to at least double the total number of hotels it manages locally, Luc Gesvret, senior vice president of operations at Accor, told BR.

“It’s a new label, a new collection of hotels, which are boutique hotels, called Mgallery. The hotels we enter into partnership with keep their name and identity and we bring them the label Mgallery, with the benefits being our added value, belonging to a very strong international network and the distribution which will be the key for the future of the hotel industry,” he said.

Accor is currently in the process of negotiating with local boutique hotel owners and hopes to sign the first partnership – either a franchise or management agreement – in 2013. The company is looking at Bucharest, Sibiu and Brasov to develop this business and says that there is a potential of between five or ten such hotels.

“We can label a hotel very quickly – in just a few weeks – and there is a very small investment to make because we keep the hotel as it is, in terms of its identity and character, and we bring the knowhow, the distribution and the belonging to a strong international network,” said Gesvret.

In Romania Accor currently operates six properties: Pullman and Novotel in Bucharest and four Ibis  hotels – two in Bucharest, one in Constanta and one in Sibiu. As for the timeline, Accor estimates that in the next five to ten years it will at least double the number of hotels it manages locally.
