73 pct of Romanians go online while on holiday, says PayPal

Some 73 percent of Romanians go online while they are on holiday while 48 percent of them consider that the internet offers a substantial help with planning their vacation, according to a PayPal and GfK report.

Some 70 percent of them go online to look for holiday deals, and 68 percent seek detailed information on the destinations where they travel. Also, Wi -Fi is the most important factor for 19 percent of Romanian tourists when they choose their accommodation.

While paying cash remains the most popular payment option for local tourists, online payments are starting to become more popular albeit their number remains low. Those who use PayPal services do so to cover variable expensed (8 percent) and accommodation expenses (8 percent). Also, 30 percent of those surveyed intend to use PayPal in the future for holiday-related expenses.

Almost a third of those surveyed said that they have already been on holiday this year, 19 percent said they are waiting for the September offers and 10 percent intend to go on holiday in the October-December period.

On average respondents take 14 days off from work each year and allocate a budget of about EUR 500 for their holiday.
