Starting April 15, about 40,000 individual tickets for the “George Enescu” International Festival went for sale, at the Eventim offices from Bucharest, Cluj-Napoca and Timisoara. Organizers anticipate that 80 percent of the tickets will have been purchased by the end of the first day, and those available online within the first 10 minutes since posting.

At this year’s edition of the festival, over 150 events are scheduled to take place during the Enescu Festival, from September 1 to 28, in Bucharest and in other cities such as Arad, Bacau, Brasov, Cluj-Napoca, Iasi, Oradea, Sibiu and Timisoara.

The 2013 edition of the Enescu Festival will present a cultural mix between Romanian composer George Enescu, along with famous composers such as Richard Wagner, Giuseppe Verdi and Benjamin Britten – all of them being commemorated this year – as well as Schoenberg, Mahler, Beethoven etc.

Concertgebouw Amsterdam, Staatskapelle Berlin, London Philharmonic, Münchner Philharmoniker, Royal Philharmonic London, Royal Stockholm Philharmonic and the Academy of Saint Martin in the Fields are just some of the special guests that will present their program in a unique presentation of Enescu’s compositions. Pittsburgh Symphony Orchestra, National Philharmonic of Russia, John Malkovich and the Wiener Akademie, Harmonius Chamber Orchestra – Osaka, Vortice Dance Company will also perform at the Festival.

Conductors Daniel Barenboim and Mariss Jansons, piano players Radu Lupu, Murray Perahia, Pinchas Zuckerman, Evgeny Kissin and Maxim Vengerov will entertain the public of this year’s edition of the Enescu Festival.

The surprises come from the Rundfunk Sinfonieorchester Berlin – which will show the Tetralogy of Wagner, for the first time in Bucharest in the last 50 years.
