Over 2,500 people, participants and spectators, attended the first edition of Urbathlon on Saturday, June, 21, taking place at the National Arena.

The MPG event included 7 sports trials, arranged in an attractive and entertaining format that reminds participants of urban obstacles we come across every day.

Sports lovers could enjoy an event dedicated to movement, positive energy, relation and the joy of competing. The atmosphere certainly heated up on Saturday, for a couple of hours straight.

The arena was set-up under the guise of a true bootcamp, with running courses, mountain climbing, rolling, jumping and other muscle-building exercises.  The participants had to run through a labyrinth but the most trying of all trials was the Assault on the Arena: climbing and descending on several rows of stairs.

Towards the end, the World Cup atmosphere took over: participants had to finish their gauntlet run with a football goal.

Regardless of results, every participant could feel like a winner by entering Urbathlon 2014, an event organised by sports marketing agency MPG.

“Urbathlon 2014 was evidence that Romanians are connected to popular sports trends, which are easily observed in other more civilized countries. They know how to move and how to have fun together. They understood and embraced the concept of the event and also proved together we can overcome the obstacles of urban living. The biggest satisfaction you can have as an organizer is to see that participants are happy and content. We congratulate all the participants and we invite them to join us in the future for the most attractive sports concepts dedicated to amateurs”, Catalin Mocuta, MPG president, told BR.

Over 1,500 participants signed up to take part in the trials and what is most encouraging is that 35 percent of them were women. After a trying run, all the participants received a special medal to attest their status as Urbathlon graduates.
