A larger share of Romanian tourists choose 4- or 5-star hotels when going abroad than other travelers from Eastern Europe, they go out to restaurants even if they buy all inclusive packages and overall, have higher holiday budgets than other tourists, according to tourism professionals quoted by Romanian daily Gandul.

“Romanians are among the biggest spending tourists in Greece, outranking for example the Germans, the British or the Dutch. If the British spend between EUR 5 to EUR 10 a day, a Romanian will spend between EUR 80 to EUR 100 – in addition the cost of their holiday package,”  Roxana Birau, assistant manager with the Romanian office of the Greek Tourism Organisation told Gandul.

Romanians have higher holiday budgets also when traveling in Austria or Bulgaria – two of the most popular traveling destinations for locals.

A third of Romanians choose 4- or 5-star hotels when traveling in Austria compared to 21.7 percent of Hungarian tourists and 19.6 percent of the Poles. Also, Romanians are younger than other foreign travelers. The average age of Romanians who go skiing in Austria is 40, compared to 43.5 percent the average age of the other tourists, according to Gandul.
