Romania has the lowest share of temporary jobs in the EU

Only 1 percent of employees have temporary contracts in Romania, the lowest share among the 28 European Union member states, Eurostat data show.

The share of temporary employees in the EU increased from 11 percent in 2002 to 13 percent in 2017.

“The total share of temporary employees varied among the Member States, with the highest shares observed in Poland and Spain (both 26 percent), Portugal (22 percent) and Croatia (20 percent), and the lowest in Romania (1 percent), Lithuania (2 percent), Estonia and Latvia (both 3 percent),” Eurostat said.

The share of people working part-time in Romania declined from 9.4 percent in 2002 to 6.5 percent in 2017, compared with 19 percent in the EU.

Part-time employment was much more common among women (31 percent) than men (8 percent) in the EU in 2017.

The total share of part-time workers varied among the Member States, with the highest proportions observed in the Netherlands (47 percent), Austria (28 percent) and Germany (27 %), and the lowest in Bulgaria (2 percent), Hungary (4 percent) and Croatia (5 percent).
