Rieker, the shoe factory in Lugoj, closes and lays off 663 employees

Rieker, the shoe maker company in Lugos, Timis, will close the gates this spring, leaving 663 employees out of jobs, according to representatives of the Territorial Labor Inspectorate (ITM), cited by Ziarul Financiar.

The ITM representative said that the company’s officials notified the institution that they will lay off all employees, a total of 663 people, in the coming period. Thay didn’t mention any reason for the closing of the plant.

Rieker is a Swiss corporation, a producer of shoes, with production plants in several countries, including Germany, USA, Switzerland, Poland, India and Pakistan. The production in Romania was made mainly for export in the Western European market.
