Retailer Carrefour has opened four stores in the Bistrita Nasaud county under the Express and Contact retail brands. The four stores are operated under franchise agreements. They are located in Bistrita (three Express stores) and Lechinta (the Contact store) and have sales areas of between 80 sqm and 180 sqm.

French Carrefour presently operates in Romania 160 stores under five retail brands – 25 Carrefour hypermarkets, 80 Carrefour Market supermarkets, 47 Express proximity stores, seven Contact proximity stores and one online store.

The first Carrefour Express store was opened in October 2011 following a franchise agreement with Angst. The local retailer announced in May that it had dropped the franchise which resulted in the Express network loosing 22 stores.

This week will also see Carrefour open on Thursday a 9,600 sqm hypermarket in Bucharest which will be located on the grounds of Vulcan Value Centre, a retail project developed by the company’s property division in partnership with real estate investment fund New Europe Property Investments (NEPI)
