Romania’s net average wage up 14.4 pct y/y in May to RON 2,704

Gross average nominal earning was in May 2018 at RON 4,494 and the net at RON 2,704, up 14.4 percent compared to May 2017, while the real growth was 8.5 percent, according to the National Institute of Statistics (INS).

The highest net nominal average earning was recorded in information technology services (including IT services), respectively RON 6,437 and the lowest in hotels and restaurants, at RON 1,554. Compared to October 1990, the real earning index was 193.8 percent, 1.5 percentage points lower than the one recorded in April 2018.

According to the INS, during the year there are fluctuations in the earnings due to the bonuses paid in December and March / April.

The most significant decreases in net average earning were recorded as follows: by 16.7 percent in insurance, reinsurance and pension funds (excluding those in the public social insurance system), respectively by 15.3 percent in the extraction of crude oil and natural gas; between 7 percent and 12 percent in real estate transactions, extraction services, financial intermediation activities, insurance and pension funds, production and supply of electricity and heat, gas, hot water and air conditioning, the extraction of upper and lower coal.

The most significant increases in net average earning were recorded as follows: between 7.5 percent and 8.5 percent in financial intermediation (excluding insurance and pension funds), mining of metal ores, forestry and exploitation forestry (including fisheries and aquaculture).

In the budgetary sector there were slight increases in net average earning as compared to the previous month, as follows: education (+ 2.1 percent), health and social care (+ 1.1 percent), and public administration (+1 percent).
