The number of taxpayers who have submitted the Unified Tax Statement to the Fiscal Agency (ANAF) has reached almost 800,000, according to profit.ro. At the time of the July 31 deadline, the total was around 734,000.
The Unified Tax Statement, introduced for the first time in 2018, replaces seven previous fiscal statements. Starting next year, the statement will be submitted exclusively online.
Although the deadline for submission was July 31, ANAF continued to receive statements after this date, either by mail, in person or online. Finance minister Eugen Teodorovici had said that the total number of people who are due to submit this statement is 964,000.
The fine for not meeting the deadline for submission of the Unified Tax Statement is between RON 50 and 500, according to the legislation, but it is unclear whether prevention law will be used in such cases, which would postpone the fine to give the taxpayer a chance to pay the taxes. Those who do not submit the statement will most likely not be able to avoid paying the taxes they owe, as ANAF usually has information about their incomes from other sources as well.
