President Klaus Iohannis claims there is a constitutional conflict between himself and PM Viorica Dancila, over the manager in which the head of government delegated her power in order to go on holiday. On Friday, he asked the constitutional court to make a ruling in this case.
Dancila delegated deputy PM Paul Stanescu to remain in power while she goes on holiday on August 6 – 13.
“The constitutional role and the specific nature of the prime minister’s duties presuppose that he or she will exercise his duties permanently and uninterruptedly wherever he or she is, including on holiday. However, whenever he or she thinks is unable to exercise his or her powers, even on this occasion, the constitutional provisions on the interim office of prime minister become incidents, “the president said.
Iohannis said he wasn’t informed by Dancila’s decision to put Stanescu in charge while she’s on vacation. This spring, the president has asked the PM to step down amid an ongoing conflict between Iohannis and the ruling coalition PSD-ALDE.
