The former Bucuresti Store, located in the historical center of the Capital City, will be demolished, according to information cited by Hotnews. The building is not a historical monument and it has been empty for the last decade.
Unused in the last ten years, the building is in decay. Since it was bought by Danish real estate developers, plans have been developed to rebuild the façade of the building and integrate it into a new one, which will house commercial spaces and offices.
The Bucharest Store was built during the interwar period, and it was nationalized during the communist era. Former District 5 Mayor Marian Vanghelie bought the Bucharest Store from AVAS in 2003 with a briefcase full of euros and dollars, equivalent to RON 3.2 million, according to DNA prosecutors who investigated the case, cited by Mediafax. After several trials, the store was returned to the heirs of the first owner, then sold to the current owners, according to press reports.
