In the quest to find out more about the #futureofwork, Business Review once again sat down with Sorina Faier, Managing Partner at Elite Searchers, for another insightful talk with the recruitment specialist about how companies learnt their lessons during the previous crisis and aren’t repeating the same mistakes during the current economic context.

“First of all, multinational companies are not firing the most expensive employees anymore, as they did in the previous economic crisis. They know that key-people can save the company with their expertise, strategies and transformation plans and drive the company during the crisis. Of course, there still are exceptions. Currently, we have almost 1 million unemployed people, but most of the fired ones were those recently employed in the company, project based or individual service providers, and blue collars.” Sorina Faier.

Unemployment stats by education level

As for the structure of unemployment by the level of training, people with no-education and primary-education cover a significant share of the total unemployed people registered with ANOFM (23.79%). Secondary-education unemployed people represent 27.57% of the total registered unemployed persons, and the university graduates are the fewest (6.66%), according to official data.

Remote work, digitalization and process-optimization

Moreover, companies and employees have now the advantage of working from home. The employees can keep their  jobs, and the employers are reducing the rent, utilities and supplies costs. Unfortunately, this situation has a negative, direct and significant bearing on the owners of office buildings, but, for sure, they will reconvert and adapt to the new tendency.

Digitalization has also developed a lot in Romania. This comes mostly with advantages. The technology helps companies to increase production and quality. On the other hand, digitalization makes some jobs, mostly the blue-collar ones, disappear, but new ones are emerging.W

Optimization of processes and procedures, communication, business transformation, adaptability and flexibility have improved. The CEOs or entrepreneurs have a new vision, and they are trying to find a solution to every problem, recalculating the losses and reinventing their businesses.
