In the first semester of 2018, 19,070 Romanian citizens found work abroad, in countries like Germany, the Netherlands, Austria, Spain and England, according to data centralized by the Labor Inspectorate.

At the same time, the number of Romanian workers who obtained employment contracts abroad through EURES was in the first half of this year 282, according to the data sent, at the request of AGERPRES, by the Ministry of Labor. During that period, 88 Romanian workers have left the country for a work contract in Spain, 58 in Portugal, 49, Great Britain – 46, Netherlands – 17, Germany – 10, Finland – 6, Belgium – 4 and Slovakia, Malta, Hungary and France each hired one Romanian worker.

“In addition, it is possible that other vacancies promoted on the EURES portal have been occupied by Romanian citizens as a result of the promotion of the NEA, but they are not obliged to communicate to the county agencies that they have concluded an individual employment contract. A network of cooperation between the European Commission, the employment services of the Member States of the European Economic Area (EU countries plus Norway, Iceland and Liechtenstein) and other labor market organizations (trade unions, employers, private placement companies) – the objective of the network is to facilitate the free movement of workers in the European space, to ensure the transparency of vacancies at the European level and, implicitly, to increase the employment rate among citizens,” the representatives of the Ministry of Labor said.

Since 2007, ANOFM has had the EURES national portal as a tool for informing on job vacancies received from European employers, contact details of EURES Advisers and other useful information. EURES Romania promotes all job offers from European employers by publishing them on the EURES national portal, through county employment agencies and the media.

In addition, Romanian citizens can find jobs in the EU and non-EU Member States and with the help of employment agents, who carry out mediation activities abroad in accordance with the provisions of the Law no.156 / 2000 on the protection of Romanian citizens who work abroad, republished with subsequent modifications and additions, or temporary employment agencies.

“However, when estimating the number of Romanian citizens working abroad, it should also be borne in mind that EU membership affords Romanian citizens the opportunity to engage in the labor market of the other Member States, based on the principle of community preference. and the right to work within the EU are the basic rights of European citizens as laid down in the EU’s Constitutional Treaties Moreover, the exact size of mobility flows to the EU is difficult to determine because the borders between Member States are wide open, as it is not mandatory to register Romanian citizenship or one of the Member States of the European Union when they leave or enter Romania,” the representatives of the Ministry of Labor mentioned.

According to data published by the Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development in the International Migration Outlook 2017, in the middle of 2015, more than 3.5 million Romanian citizens lived outside of Romania, Germany, Spain, Austria, France, Italy, The Netherlands, Malta, San Marino, Sweden, Denmark, Finland, Estonia, Hungary, Ireland, the United Kingdom, Greece and Cyprus.
