PONDERAS ACADEMIC HOSPITAL, part of REGINA MARIA Healthcare Network, is the first and only multidisciplinary hospital in Romania to obtain JCI international recognition for the safety and quality of medical care. JCI is the most prestigious and thorough international accreditation and 240 quality standards have been evaluated to obtain it. With this accreditation, PONDERAS ACADEMIC HOSPITAL becomes the only hospital in Romania with 7 international accreditations: 1 from JCI (USA), 5 from SRC (USA), and 1 from IFSO (EU).

“This high level of recognition of the quality of medical care obtained for the first time in Romania by a multidisciplinary hospital opened a new path for quality standards in the region, a privilege accompanied by a responsible commitment to maintain and constantly raise this level, in line with the most appreciated hospitals in the world. The gold medal received from JCI complements the other international accreditations obtained by PONDERAS ACADEMIC HOSPITAL since 2011, which validate the surgical excellence, confirming the level of patient safety. The beneficiaries of this institutional framework of excellence are patients who cross our threshold, eager to find medical services of the highest quality. The favorable therapeutic response both feeds the satisfaction of healthcare professionals and motivates them to treat their peers at these standards in Romania. There are many aspects to highlight in the hospital’s activity. However, in the current context of the new coronavirus pandemic, it is worth mentioning the JCI-appreciated institutional protocols of medical and operational safety undertaken by PONDERAS ACADEMIC HOSPITAL, which ensured the protection of all patients and medical staff against the viral infection. I thank the entire team for the work and commitment they have shown over time. They made it possible for us to become an international reference for the organization and quality of the modern treatments we provide.” said Prof. Assoc. Dr. Cătălin Copăescu, Medical Director at PONDERAS ACADEMIC HOSPITAL.

Joint Commission International has given PONDERAS ACADEMIC HOSPITAL international recognition following a rigorous process of testing and evaluating the quality of medical services and patient safety. The accreditation process lasted approximately 2 years, during which all the processes and procedures underlying the medical act and which prevent human or procedural errors were analyzed.

“The accreditation received from JCI deeply honors us and confirms once again the performance and safety of the medical services offered by PONDERAS ACADEMIC HOSPITAL. Our mission has been and will remain to put the patient first, and the process for obtaining this recognition has taught us many things that were immediately reflected in our values. JCI accreditation is the beginning of a new chapter and we feel, more than ever, the responsibility to keep our standards at the highest level.” says Dr. Nirvana Georgescu, Quality and Patient Safety Director at REGINA MARIA Health Network.

REGINA MARIA thus becomes the only healthcare network in Romania with two JCI accreditations, after Băneasa Hospital received the recognition for quality of care and patient safety in 2014. At the same time, REGINA MARIA reconfirms Romania’s position on the list of countries that provide the highest standards of safety in the private sector, including: medical safety, low complication rate, low number of hospital-acquired nosocomial infections, efficiency of medical care.

The pre-accreditation process lasted over 2 years and involved over 4,000 hours of analysis for the entire team. The hospital was involved in the evaluation of 240 standards, each standard having a minimum of 4 indicators. There were approximately 1,000 indicators analyzed to demonstrate compliance with JCI standards.

Ponderas Academic Hospital was accredited by the JCI commission and obtained a degree of compliance of 98%.
