France’s Total group supports 3 Romanian startups selected through national challenge

The local subsidiary of the French energy group giant Total has selected 3 Romanian startups through a national competition and will support them financially.

The jury of local experts selected the winners of the 2018-2019 Startupper of the Year by Total Challenge in Romania.

The three winners of the Startupper of the Year by Total Challenge in Romania that were awarded in a dedicated ceremony held last month are:

  • 3rd prize: Alexandru Buzescu, Plugpoint – charging stations, project encouraging the use of electric cars in Romania by developing an efficient and easy to use infrastructure;
  • 2nd Prize: Mădălin-Marius Margan, OncoChain – an international platform for oncology patients, providing personalized health care;
  • 1st Prize: Mirona Păun, Tzitzi-Poc – a project that exploits theater as an educational tool, integrating digital elements, in order to teach children how to identify and manage emotions.

These young entrepreneurs will receive financial support of EUR 25,000 in total (first prize – EUR 12,500, 2nd prize – EUR 7,500 and 3rd prize – EUR 5,000), personalized support and coaching from Total Romania and a communications campaign to publicize their project.

The Top Female Entrepreneur’s title was awarded to Miruna Păun, who thus became a double winner in the Total Challenge, held for the first time in Romania.

The 2018-2019 Startupper of the Year by Total Challenge was held simultaneously in 55 countries – 37 of which are in Africa, 11 in the Asia-Pacific and Middle East region, 4 in the Americas, and 3 in Europe.

By helping innovative young entrepreneurs to realize their projects, the Challenge strengthens the local social fabric.

The second Startupper of the Year by Total Challenge received nearly 50,000 entries, of which more than 15,000 were fully completed. In all, 825 finalists presented their projects to a jury of experts, with 165 winning prizes.

The first prize winner in each country will see their project presented to the international grand juries that will pick the six Grand Winners from all 55 countries.
