Peer-to-peer car sharing service Perpetoo aims to reach 3,000 listed vehicles in its first year

The first person-to-person car sharing service in Romania, Perpetoo, aims to list 3,000 cars on the platform in its first year, and to intermediate about 25,000 rentals.

The company says that Romania has about 500,000 registered cars that are less than 10 years old, and that most of them are parked up to 95 percent of the time.

Perpetoo is available in Bucharest, Cluj-Napoca, Iasi and Timisoara, and it targets people who want to rent out their own cars and those who want to drive someone else’s car for a minimum period of 3 hours and a maximum of 30 days.

In the first month since the app launched, about 50 cars were listed on perpetoo.com, and interactions between Drivers and the Owners went smoothly, with no incidents or damages to the rented cars. Perpetoo representatives estimate that in just a few months, the average income from rentals will be EUR 300, but it will depend on the rental rates set by the car owners, as well as by the applicable promotions or discounts.

Car owners have CASCO insurance throughout the car rental period, offered by UNIQA Asigurari and the Renomia SRBA Insurance Broker, protecting them in the event of damages.

“Romanians have many cars, but most of them sit idle. On the other hand, from my experience as an entrepreneur in the tourism field, I realized that current rental services do not always provide the flexibility tourists need when looking for a transport option locally, in terms of both costs and conditions. The idea of a platform that brings together those whose cars sit idle with those who want to travel on four wheels came naturally, and Perpetoo soon began to take shape. Now the platform has started to operate in 4 major cities in the country and the first interactions made us confident that the alternative we offer represents what the market needs right now,” said Aurelian Marin, the founder of Perpetoo.

The total investment in Perpetoo so far has reached EUR 450,000, with exclusively Romanian capital, and the company employs over 40 people.

Listing and renting cars is done exclusively online, for free, through the Perpetoo platform, where users have to create an account in the Owner and Driver categories. Drivers pay the rental and insurance fees when they rent a car.

Cars listed on the platform must have a maximum of 8 + 1 seats, not be older than 10 years, have up to date technical checkups, civil auto liability insurance, have a valid vignette and be properly equipped.

As the documents are filled in online beforehand, all drivers and owners need to do is meet to exchange keys and car documents and inspect the condition of the car.
