MARe was created by the MARe Foundation, which was founded in 2015 and has since organized a series of exhibitions in major museums in Bucharest (The National Museum of Art), Sibiu (Brukenthal Museum), Craiova (The Art Museum), Oradea (The Museum of the Cris County), and conferences throughout Romania.

The purpose of the MARe Foundation extends far beyond the visual arts and exhibitions; the museum holds a research library focused on mapping European curatorial and collecting practices in contemporary art, exploring how and where art is currently displayed.

The MARe Foundation’s aim is to foster national and international partnerships and leverage the visibility of the arts in Romania through research, education and the launch of an extensive program of events that will take place at the museum in the years to come. Moreover, MARe has an experimental music and film program, a library of European publications dedicated to contemporary art, an educational program, and undertake research activities, but also cafeteria and a beautiful garden to sit in.

The museum is located in northern Bucharest, at 15 Primăverii Blvd, opened from 11.00-19.00 all week, except Tuesdays. Tickets price is RON 15.
